The GM Buzz

GM Alex Baburin contacted a number of fellow Grandmasters, asking them their predictions for some upcoming events.  Their replies will be posted here as they are received.

GM Adrian Mikhalchishin: (23rd October 2000)

Forecast of the Kasparov-Kramnik match: Kasparov will win 2:1

Forecast the World Championship in India/Iran: Vishy has to win, of course.

GM Dmitry Komarov (4th October 2000)

Forecast of the Kasparov-Kramnik match: " I agree with Shirov’s opinion — Kramnik will not win."

Forecast the World Championship in India/Iran: "This competition does not have any sporting interest. I think that the sporting element in chess will gradually decrease in the near future."

GM Zolt‡n Gyimesi:

Forecast of the Kasparov-Kramnik match:

Forecast the World Championship in India/Iran: I don't know exactly who will play and who will not, but I guess this time the winner will be an over 2700 player.

GM Thipsay:

Kasparov-Kramnik match: I feel that Kasparov will still be the favourite, despite the age. The number of resulting games in the match will, however, be considerably less than the matches against Short and Anand.

Forecast the World Championship in India/Iran: Anand will be the favourite, without any slightest doubt.
